Jan. 9: Nebraska reports 1,006 new cases, four additional deaths

Sioux City, Iowa (KTIV) -- Nebraska health experts report 1,006 new cases of COVID-19 in the state on Saturday, bringing the total number of cases in the state to 175,620.

Four additional deaths were recorded on Saturday, pushing Nebraska's death toll to 1,737.

As of Saturday, 120,729 virus cases have recovered in the state.

Nebraska's COVID-19 dashboard indicates 471 residents are currently hospitalized due to the virus, down from 481 Friday. A total of 5,444 Nebraska residents have been hospitalized because of COVID-19.

So far, 869,564 Nebraskans have been tested for the virus, and health experts say 693,513 tests have come back negative.

The Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department did not release updated numbers for Cedar, Cuming, Dakota, Dixon, Madison, Stanton, Thurston and Wayne counties on Saturday. Therefore, those counties have been omitted from today's update. They will be included again once their next updates have been released.
