PENDER, Neb. (KTIV) - The Pender Community Hospital Auxiliary in Pender, Nebraska Sponsored a blood drive today at the Pender Fire House.
The blood was collected by the Lifeserve blood center. Officials said that there was a great turnout Tuesday and that donors don't just have the chance to donate blood. They can also opt into an important potential donation that would help COVID-19 patients.
"It’s an option to get the antibodies tested, you don’t have to. If you do opt to have those tested and you come back positive for the antibodies, we will call you to do a convalescent plasma. Where then, that plasma gets sent the hospital with the critically ill and those antibodies in your blood helps fight off COVID-19" said Ann Odell, the team lead phlebotomist at Lifeserve Blood Center.
The auxiliary's next blood drive will be the second Tuesday of March. Blood drives are held every two months.
