SIOUX CITY, (KTIV) - When you think of art, you may just think it’s just something to look at. But with one particular sculpture, there’s more to it than meets the eye.

The "Hang Your Hat" sculpture in downtown Sioux City is not just a sculpture, but a way for people to give back to the community.

"It’s what I would call functional art. So it’s not that it’s really flashy, but it’s something that’s more versatile and people have actually been able to just drop off hats and coats and gloves for those in need," said Ann Westra, the communications and public engagement specialist for the city of Sioux City. "So, it’s served that functional purpose while also giving something to look at."

Although the sculpture has moved around, it’s found a permanent home that makes it easily accessible for anyone.

“It’s landed in this spot in front of city hall and it really makes for a nice spot for people to drop things off and pick things up,” added Westra.

Westra also said that the city is grateful to its citizens who take time out of their day to help their community by bringing clothing to the sculpture.
