DAKOTA COUNTY, Neb. (KTIV) - Residents 65 and older in Dakota County, Nebraska, can now sign up to be on a waiting list to get their COVID-19 vaccine.

They can call the special number Dakota County Health Department has set up or fill out a survey.

Leaders with the Dakota County Health Department said they've seen a lot of feedback from the community after announcing the waiting list.

"The community has had a great response of calling and getting their name on that waiting list, along with our survey that we have out there. And there's a link on our Facebook page to that survey," said Jackie Traum, Community Manager.

While the department's last clinic vaccinated at least 60 residents, they're looking at going bigger for the next round.

"Oh absolutely, we've had more than 200 people respond," said Traum.

She added it's great to be able to continue moving forward in the phases of vaccination.

"It's amazing. We want to get as much of our population vaccinated that is willing to get vaccinated," said Traum.

And where there's a will, there's a way.

"There will be no cutoff for the 65 and plus. Whoever wants to get vaccinated, they will get on our waiting list and we'll work our way through the list," said Traum.

Traum added they'd like to do more drive-through clinics like they did previously, but it's all dependant on the weather.

She reminds Dakota County residents they only need to set up their spot once.

"I just really want to emphasize, we've had a lot of duplications. People will only need to call once or fill out the survey. They don't need to call and fill out the survey," said Traum.

Continuing to look toward the future.

Traum emphasizes to reserve a spot you must be a resident 65 or older of Dakota County.

She said while they don't know the exact date for vaccination, those who sign up will receive a call to set up an appointment once they do figure out the set date.

You can call (402) 987-2177 or fill out a survey here to make that appointment.

SOUTH SIOUX CITY, Neb. (KTIV) - The Dakota County Health Department is in the process of setting up COVID-19 vaccine appointments for the next phase of its distribution plan.

In Dakota County, Nebraska, adults 65 and older are in the next phase of receiving vaccines.

Anyone within this population who would like to reserve an appointment should call the health department at (402) 987-2177. A family member of someone within that population can call to make the appointment as well.

The health department says the line will not be answered, rather the caller will leave a voicemail with their name, age and phone number. Afterwards, health department officials will use this information to contact the caller when it is time to schedule the appointment.

To minimize the chance of duplicating appointments, the health department is asking residents to call just once or fill out a survey here.
