SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -- One local foundation is asking you to help spread kindness this Valentine's Day.

The Sioux City Public Schools Foundation is selling "kindness" signs for $20.

The signs were designed by Mark Avery and the Kindness Siouxland Initiative.

The money will go into the foundation for the school district, to promote kindness through literacy, by purchasing kindness books. It will also buy incentives for the Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports Initiatives promoted by the district.

"It is going to help us with our literacy efforts, but also one more reminder, one more opportunity to educate them about making decisions and making good choices," said Lisa Niebuhr, Development Director with SCPSF.

The hope is to have signs spread throughout Sioux City to remind Siouxlanders to choose kindness.

"I think one of the things that I hope people take away is that it puts a smile on their face, and makes them think about what are those kind gestures that you can either model or do toward others that you can just pay it forward," said Miyuki Nelson, Director of Operations for SCPSF.

Nelson said if enough signs are sold, she wants to continue the kindness theme into a foundation art camp this summer.
