(NBC News) - After three days of presentations from Democratic House managers, on Friday the Trump legal team had a chance to make its case.

They say former President Donald Trump should be acquitted, and that the former president doesn't bear responsibility for last month's attack on the capitol.

The Trump defense team only took two and a half hours. They argued that the former president was exercising free speech.

They also accused Democrats of being hypocritical. The Trump defense team aired a minutes-long montage of top democrats using similar rhetoric.

The defense portrayed the former president as a victim of political hatred, and insisted he did nothing wrong.

Following the presentation, impeachment managers, and Trump lawyers, answered questions from U.S. senators, who serve as the jury in the case.

The trial is scheduled to continue tomorrow, with a verdict possible this weekend.
