CRAWFORD COUNTY, Iowa (KTIV) - A Dow City, Iowa, woman accused of fatally shooting her boyfriend hid the gun used in the crime, this according to court documents filed on Monday.
Forty-four-year-old Beth Guzman is charged with first-degree murder in the death of her boyfriend, 46-year-old Jeremy Frank.
Authorities say at 9:15 p.m. Sunday, the Crawford County Sheriff's Office received an anonymous call about the welfare of a person. When deputies arrived at a home at the 500 block of East Fulton in Dow City, they found Frank unresponsive and bleeding.
He was taken to the Crawford County Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
According to court documents filed on Monday, Guzman told authorities the couple got into an altercation sometime around 5:30 p.m. at his place of employment in Denison, Iowa.
She then returned to their home where she armed herself with a handgun. According to court documents, it is believed Frank returned home around 8 p.m. and began yelling at Guzman. When he reached their bedroom she began shooting at him.
Frank was shot once in the upper torso. Court documents claim he was able to make his way to his vehicle and drove a short distance before succumbing to his injuries.
Court documents claim Guzman gave an account of hiding the gun and shell casings. She also admitted to altering the scene to hide the crime.
