Travis Chinn was born and raised in Kingsley, IA., just outside of Sioux City, Iowa. Growing up he loved sports, news and television, so when it came time to go to college, his choice of a major was easy. He started college at the University of South Dakota but ended up graduating from Northern Arizona University with a degree in Journalism/Electronic Media.
As luck would have it, his first job out of college was with KMEG-TV in Sioux City where he was hired as a News Reporter/Weekend Sports Anchor. After a few years at KMEG, Travis decided he wanted to go back to Arizona. In Arizona he worked as an Insurance Claims Adjuster for many different companies, but always had getting back to television news in his mind.
After a few years in the great state of Arizona, Travis moved back to Iowa and eventually landed back at KMEG, where he was hired as the Chief Photographer in 2014. In that role, Travis had to opportunity to cover everything from Presidential campaign stops, breaking news, weather events to local city council meetings and various other events in our viewing area. He also got to cover sports. After three years as the Chief Photographer, Travis moved over to the Sports Department as a Sports Reporter/Weekend Sports anchor.
In his role as Sports Anchor, he covered everything from Division I College Sports, NAIA College Sports, the professional teams in our area to the many local high schools in our viewing area of NW Iowa, NE Nebraska, SE South Dakota.
Travis left Television News in 2019 but returned in August of 2020 as a Morning Producer at KVLY in Fargo, ND. In December of 2020 Travis was hired as the Chief Photographer at KTIV in Sioux City.
In his spare time, Travis likes to watch sports, practice photography, visit the Iowa Great Lakes and play video games.
