WISNER, Neb. (KTIV) - Health officials have confirmed three individuals in a northeast Nebraska county have tested positive for COVID-19 variants.
The Elkhorn Logan Valley Public Health Department says they are aware of three positive tests for the variants. One is for the UK variant and two for the California variant. Officials say they found out about these positive results within the last few days. All three cases are in Madison County.
“I think it’s just part of the natural process and that as we’re seeing this proliferate across the United States, of course, our state is gonna be no different than that. And so it was just a matter of time before we started to see the variants as well,” said Melissa Nemec, assistant health director for ELVPHD.
Nemec said as long as people take precautions, like wearing their masks and washing their hands often, they can protect themselves against the variants.
"People should continue to take the public health protective measures. Mask when you’re in public, vaccinate of course if you’re she 16 and above and you can receive the vaccinations, we definitely encourage that. And avoid crowded places,” added Nemec.
Nemec says so far the department has vaccinated over 16,500 people in their health district, which covers Burt, Cuming, Madison and Stanton Counties.
