MARCUS, Iowa (KTIV) -- Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa was in Marcus Tuesday to tour the Industrial Technology program at MMCRU High School.
Congress is in recess. And during breaks in the congressional session, like this, Grassley says he tries to visit all of Iowa's 99 counties.
He said he wanted to visit the high school in Marcus to be able to reach out to younger people.
Before the tour, Grassley got the opportunity to speak with several students enrolled in one or more industrial tech course. He says courses like these are an important way for students to learn about industrial jobs within their community.
While Grassley was in Marcus KTIV asked him about several topics currently being discussed at the federal level.
"I have a bill in that would build on a Secret Service program that's probably two or three decades old where they have expert people that will go into a group and have a seminar type to alert people to people that could be committing violent things like these school shootings, etc.," said Sen. Grassley.
When asked whether he plans to run for re-election next year, Grassley said he was waiting until fall to announce whether he'll seek another term in the U.S. Senate.
