SIOUX CITY (KTIV) -- Siouxlanders of nearly all ages filed through the Expo Center Tuesday, excited to finally receive their first dose of the vaccine. Many saying getting vaccinated was their first step towards normalcy.

"It feels good to finally get everything moving here because I feel like once everybody gets going here things will start going back to normal and that's all I really want," said Gavin Cote.

Younger Siouxlanders like Cote are already eager for the second dose, so that he can start looking forward to a lot of big plans coming up.

"Going into college, I just hope I don't have to wear a mask and all that sort of stuff. And that classes are full," said Cote.

Others like Patrick Dougherty coming all the way from Omaha, also eager to receive his first dose.

"First and foremost making sure friends and family are safe, that kind of peace of mind. I'm most looking forward to that," said Dougherty.

Now that the first group is through, health officials are looking ahead to Thursday's clinic where 2,100 more appointments were made available. And they say there are still plenty of openings for Siouxlanders to get their vaccine.

You can sign up online, at SiouxlandDistrictHealth.org, or by calling (712) 234-3922 during normal business hours.
