(KTIV) - It is time to pick out a good book because it's National Library Week.

"We really have something for everyone, and we welcome everyone," said Helen Rigdon, Sioux City Public Library Director.

National Library Week is a time to celebrate libraries and those who work there.

Liane Welte, Director of the North Sioux City Public Library, said their goal is to be a well-rounded place of learning.

"People have a misconception that books are outdated, but what we're finding is that there are people of all ages who enjoy opening a book," said Welte.

While books continue to be popular, leaders with local Siouxland libraries say libraries are constantly adapting and nowadays, hold more than just books.

"A lot of people if they've not been in, especially since school or something, they think all they have is books. We are so much more than that now. We have electronic resources, we have access to the internet. You can use our computers. With a library card, you can check out a smarter hotspot. We're so much more than just a book warehouse," said Rigdon.

Throughout the pandemic, Rigdon says they've had to adapt, putting programming online, doing curbside pickup to check out books, and changing the way they run the library.

Welte added, the thing they missed the most, was seeing patrons face to face.

"That was very difficult for us because as librarians we are geared to want to help people," said Welte.

And they continue to try to keep the public coming back to the library.

"Librarians are like yeah, what our community wants and what our patrons need, we try to find a way to fill that void for them. And I think we're just going to continue to adapt to the changing technology and needs and create access for everybody in the community," said Rigdon.

So during this National Library Week, be sure to check out all the things your local library has to offer.

The North Sioux City Library is open to patrons.

The Morningside Branch of the Sioux City Public Library also is open.

You can visit the downtown location by making an appointment and Perry Creek is offering curbside pickup.
