NORTH SIOUX CITY, S.D. (KTIV) - A recount has been filed for the mayoral race in North Sioux City, South Dakota.
The recount is expected to take place Tuesday, April 20, at 3 p.m.
The recount comes as both candidates, Patti Teel and Linda Cutsinger, tied last Tuesday with 152 votes each. On Monday night, the canvassing board for North Sioux City met to certify the election results from last week.
Three judges will recount the ballots Tuesday.
"Each candidate is allowed to select one person to represent themselves and there is a third judge, that judge simply has to be agreeable to both candidates," said Eric Christensen, city administrator.
The candidates can pick a judge from the general public.
If Tuesday's recount does not break the tie, a game of chance will decide the mayor.
That game of chance involves the candidate each splitting a shuffled deck of cards in half. Whoever has the high card is the new mayor.
