Okoboji, IA (KUOO Radio) - After being called off last year due to the pandemic, Walleye Weekend is making a return to the Iowa Great Lakes.
It will be held Saturday May 1 and Sunday May 2, 2021.
Kylie Zankowski of the Iowa Great Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce says they're seeing a lot of registrations coming in for the event, which will have thousands of dollars in prizes. "Of course we have the $39,000 grand prize if you catch one of the tagged fish during the weekend and there is also the extended contest, so if you catch one of those tagged fish in the summer months leading up to the end of August, you win a portion of the registration there as well. But in addition to that we've got different categories: heaviest fish, heaviest stringers of fish, and they win rods and reels. Over $3,500 of rods and reels were donated by Fisherman's Factory Outlet."
Zankowski says they'll also be raffling off thousands of dollars in prizes at the luncheon which will be held Sunday, May 2nd.
Anyone wanting to sign up to participate can go to the Okoboji Chamber website.
