NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV) - A Norfolk, Nebraska, playground is getting a facelift.
The middle and upper ring playgrounds at Skyview Park are in the process of getting not only new equipment but a 100-foot zipline.
City leaders say they have been working on the project for the last two weeks and the current equipment was approaching the end of its lifetime. They say these renovations will be a big help to the local community.
"All the large events are up here. A lot of cross-country meets are up here and so it draws a lot of out-of-town people for the Christian Cross Festival, our fourth of July celebration. So a lot of people come to this. So it's kind of important to us to show what we can do here in our park system and keep it updated," said Pat Mrsny, the Parks and Recreation Director for the City of Norfolk.
Mrsny said with April 22 being Earth Day it's important to keep the parks clean.
"We strive to keep them clean. We strive to take care of the environment. We planted 4 trees up here this week. With that in mind, this weekend we're doing a community-wide cleanup of our river downtown," added Mrsny.
Mrsny said if the weather holds up, he is hoping for the renovations to be done by the middle or end of next week.
