MEADOW GROVE, Neb. (KTIV) - With nice weather throughout Siouxland, planting season for farmers has been able to kick off.
Farmers in northeast Nebraska are out soaking up this stellar weather and planting their crops. One farmer in Meadow Grove, Nebraska said they won't be slowing down while the weather allows them to plant.
"We are going to be going hard, yes we are. We have many acres to cover and we gotta go when the going is good, the weather is good, and we're just happy to be able to get going and hopefully we'll have a successful planting season and a successful growing season," said Karen Grant, a farmer in Meadow Grove.
Grant said when you farm, there's no such thing as a normal year, and every year has its ups and downs. She said last year, prices were down for what her farm had in the field, but now that has changed.
"Prices this year for what we had in the field last year have been excellent right now. So yes, we had problems, but I can see there are advantages for us too with the pricing the way it is," added Grant.
Grant said although they hoped to start planting sooner, they're happy to be planting and are looking forward to a great 2021.
Grant also said it's time to hope that COVID-19 is in the rearview mirror, plant a good crop, and move on.
