NORFOLK, Neb. (KTIV) - A local favorite, in Norfolk, Nebraska, may close in July, after decades of being a staple in the community.

After opening in 1974, the Abbey Christian Store has been a local favorite for northeast Nebraskans for 47 years, selling faith-based items like bibles, children's books, and gifts.

It is now on its 4th ownership group, and in 2019, they decided it was time to put the store up for sale and let someone else take the reins.

However, there hasn't been a buyer yet, and if one isn't found soon, the store will close in July.

"It's a great place not just to buy something that will help folks grow with their own faith, but also help encourage others to grow in faith. So it's a special place that a lot of people do care a lot about," said Tim Worstell, the store's manager.

Worstell said the store's presence in the community is deep, and people come from all over northeast Nebraska and even Yankton to shop here.

"As long as there's this kind of presence in the town, I think it'll be very meaningful to the community. I think it'll be meaningful to us as ownership and management, the previous owners that started this legacy back in the seventies as well," added Worstell.

Worstell said running the store for has been a great experience. The store will be closing on July 10 if a buyer isn't found.
