16-year-old driver arrested near Merrill, IA after deputy notices vehicle on fire, teen charged with driving while intoxicated

PLYMOUTH COUNTY, Iowa (KTIV) - A 16-year-old male was arrested near Merrill, Iowa for operating while intoxicated Friday morning.

A Plymouth County Deputy was heading southbound on Highway 75 near Merrill when he noticed a vehicle heading northbound was on fire.

The deputy pulled the vehicle over near Highway 75 and Kern Drive and the driver was removed from the vehicle.

The driver was a 16-year-old male from South Sioux City, Nebraska.

Le Mars Fire and Merrill Fire Department were dispatched to that location for the vehicle that was fully engulfed in flames.

The juvenile was charged with OWI 1st Offense and was released to their legal guardian.
