COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa (KTIV) - Police in western Iowa are searching for a woman they suspect of setting another woman on fire and hitting the victim in the face as another person tried to put out the flames.
Police say Monday at about 4:30 a.m. officers were called to a homeless shelter near the intersection of North 15th Street and Avenue North in Council Bluffs.
When officers arrived at New Visions Homeless Services, they found 37-year-old Christine Weilage in front of the building with severe burns on her body. Weilage, of Council Bluffs, was immediately transported to an Omaha, Nebraska hospital for treatment.
At this time, investigators believed Weilage was involved with a disturbance involving suspect 28-year-old Lindsy Maves of Council Bluffs.
Police say the original incident occurred in front of a residence near the homeless shelter. At some time during this incident, Maves allegedly sprayed a flammable substance on Weilage and then lit her on fire.
Police say a witness at the incident attempted to put the fire out, and while doing so, Maves allegedly attacked Weilage again by hitting her in the face with an unknown object.
Maves left the area before officers' arrival and at this time, officers have been unable to locate her.
This is an ongoing investigation, anyone with information about this incident or knows the possible whereabouts of suspect Lindsy Maves should contact the Council Bluffs Police Department at (712) 328-4728 or Crime Stoppers at (712) 328-7867.
